ESB International is the tour sponsor of the South African Gaels, which is the first all-African GAA team, on its inaugural visit to the island of Ireland. The team, which was established four years ago, is made up of players from the townships of Johannesburg.
Over the next week, the players who range in age from 17 to 30 years are visiting the republic and also Belfast to learn more about the home of GAA. The team will test their skills against a number of Irish and Northern-Irish teams during their week-long visit including St Vincent’s Juniors, BallyBoden St Enda’s and St Mary’s Belfast.
Ollie Brogan, Managing Director, ESB International commented: “We are delighted to support the South African Gaels team on their first visit to the home of gaelic football. As a company we have strong ties with South Africa operating in the region since the early 1990’s, with a head office in Johannesburg. Gaelic sport holds an important place in the community among the young and old here in Ireland and we are looking forward to creating a similar legacy in South Africa.”
