DoneDeal Charity Month initiative surpasses €500K in donations

DoneDeal, Ireland’s largest and most successful online classifieds adverts site is delighted to announce that since February 2010 over €500,000 (it is now at over €625,000) has been donated to Irish charities.

DoneDeal launched its Charity Month in February 2010 as a way of donating to the charities in the local area that were important to staff. Since the launch of this initiative every second month a charity has been chosen and for the duration of that month 10% of the cost of placing an ad has gone to the designated charity/charities. Initially, one lucky charity received the sum but as DoneDeal grew and more and more ads were placed it was decided to split the moneys raised between three charities.

Since the launch of this initiative in February 2010 DoneDeal has been delighted to raise money for some very important charities and causes, big and small, across Ireland. Just some of the beneficiaries have included:

  • Simon
  • MS Ireland
  • Aware
  • St Vincent de Paul
  • Safe Ireland
  • Cystic Fibrosis Association
  • Irish Heart Foundation
  • Wexford Arts Centre
  • Irish Therapy Dogs
  • Blood Bike East
  • Jack & Jill Foundation

Fred Karlsson, Founder of DoneDeal, said: “From day one we have genuinely tried to help out the community in whatever way feasible. It is important to me that the CSR is not just a corporate statement, but that it is something that is exciting and visionary. We know we are not going to save the world with this idea, but I think it is a really nice idea as all the staff get involved and the money really does make a difference. We’ve seen some of the

Fred continued, “When we started this we never could have envisaged that we would have donated more than half a million to these charities. Thanks to all the DoneDealers, without them this would not have been possible!”

Donna Spellacy, Community Manager at DoneDeal and who has worked with DoneDeal since launch, was on hand for the milestone announcement. She added, “We are really proud of our Charity Month and reaching this milestone. It started out as something small and to see it grow this big is amazing. We have seen some amazing results from our donations in the past few years. DoneDeal Charity Month makes a big impact for charities whether they’re new or long established and this month is a great example of that. The Charity Month is brilliant for all involved, we love raising the money and we love giving it away even more!

This month’s charity month recipients were Epilepsy Ireland, Pomegranate and the Bracken

Lab at Trinity College Dublin which specialises in Neuroblastoma research.  Each charity for the DoneDeal October charity month received just over €12,750. These charities are a typical example of just some of the types of charity that benefit from the DoneDeal Charity Month. As an example the money raised this month will help:

  • Pomegranate to allow three couple go ahead with IVF to pursue their dreams of becoming parents
  • Epilepsy Ireland to develop and deliver a new self-management programme for people with epilepsy.
  • The Bracken Lab at TCD to work with Crumlin Children’s Hospital to understand the nature of the most severe form of Neuroblastoma.
